Swiftor’s Twitch New York City Meet Up Recap

On the seventh floor of The Olivia building in midtown Manhattan, Swiftor aka Joseph Alminawi, held the first Twitch New York City meetup. The room was filled with 28 people, some who cast on Twitch, others who were interested in streaming, and one’s who were fans of Twitch. Beverages and food were provided by Swift. All the attendees sat in a circle and introduced themselves by their Twitch handle, explained what genre of games they played, and why they decided to come to the Twitch meetup.

Some highlights from the event were DZ giving advice to the upcoming streamers on which programs to use, some of the strategies that helped him grow on Twitch, and how to be patient when streaming and growing a follower base.

FuturemanGaming gave a great explanation on branding yourself on Twitch and streaming. When he first started streaming he thought of a concept of how he could separate himself from what everyone else was doing. When he first got his green screen he realized he could put literally anything as a background and came up with multiple backdrops that related to his Futureman branding. Eventually it caught someone’s attention at Twitch and it all snowballed from there. Next thing he knew he had 1200 viewers and the rest is history.

Swiftor spoke about when his channel grew substantially, around November 2014. He realized when he would send out Twitch messages some of them wouldn’t reach his viewers. Swiftor decided to create his own mailing list with custom features, like having the users be able to choose which game they wanted to be notified about when Swiftor went live. This helped inform viewers of Swiftor through the custom mailing list which lead to substantial growth of his Twitch channel.

Andy L from Sandbox Strategies was also in attendance. Sandbox Strategies is a boutique firm focused on media strategy and digital publishing services for video games and consumer tech. Andy gave great insight to streamers as well as giving a different perspective from a firm standpoint rather than being a streamer trying to get in contact with a firm.
