Discord Update Brings New Features: Nitro, Search and Engineering Blog

Discord has updated their service to include some highly anticipated features. The new features include: Nitro, search, email round-up and a new engineering blog.

Nitro is a way for the community to support Discord. Nitro also gives unique incentives to supporters, to show appreciation. Support begins at $4.99 USD/month or $49.99 USD/year.

If you decide to support Discord through Nitro, this is what you will get:

  • Animated Avatar – upload a GIF avatar that plays in your profile and when moused over in chat.
  • Use Custom Emoji Everywhere – get a global passport to use your custom emoji in any server or DM.
  • Boosted Upload Limit – share big images and files with a larger upload size of 50MB (from 8MB).
  • Rep Your Discord Support – display how long you’ve supported Discord with a special profile badge.

Along with the roll-out of Nitro, Discord also added some new features highly anticipated from the community, including:

  • Search is now rolling out in a big way. Expect to see it available everywhere in about a week.
  • Receive an email round-up of missed messages if you don’t have our mobile app. Easily turned off if you’re email allergic.
  • Loading speeds for images and embeds increased by about a lot of %. Your memes will vigorously appear.
