r/Twitch Community Found a Few Twitch Search Easter Eggs

Over the weekend, r/Twitch user palmettos1 decided to take a closer look into Twitch’s search feature and found a few interesting easter eggs.

Each easter egg is based upon inside jokes within their respective community. When you search the particular phrase or series of symbols, Twitch’s search will direct you to the game related to the phrase.

How to find them: Look for packets starting with ‘queries?’ in Chrome inspect while you type a game name into the search bar. They contain JSON with a bunch of data returned by your search string. Included are aliases that Twitch uses internally to match your search string to games, for example: {“results”:[{“hits”:[{“aliases”:[“Defence of the Ancients 2″,”Defense of the Ancients 2″,”༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ”] …

Some easter eggs he found:

  1. “༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ” is an alias for Dota
  2. “captain teemo on duty” is an alias for League of Legends.
  3. “the bomb has been planted” is an alias for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
  4. “rng please” is an alias for Hearthstone.
  5. “Leeroy Jenkins” is an alias for World of Warcraft.
  6. “play of the game” is an alias for Overwatch.
